Gifts for boys

Today I would like to talk about gifts for boys. You may think it is a lot easier to buy gifts for girls because of the wide range of toys, clothes, beauty products and accessories fit for every girl available in the market today, this has cloud many people's judgement on how easily to find a gift that fit mostly every boys too. How about wrapping up a baseball set as a gift to your son, or cousin, or nephew, or friend's son, or neighbour's son, or whoever's son for a Birthday/ Christmas gift for a change? Baseball set is a great gift especially from a father to a son because it promotes special bonding of father and son when they could have fun enjoying the game together. A basket ball is a nice thoughful gift for boys too.

Besides sport items, you can think of giving away collectibles and memorabilia too. I know at some point of every boy's age, they are crazy about some collectible cards, or action figures collections, or comic books, or any collectibles item that you can think of. So, it would be great if you know what they obsess about during that time. If you are able to get those collectible items for them as a present on special occasion, they will think you are awsome and remember you for life. It is one of the way to capture a boy's heart.

Another cateogry of gifts for boys that you won't go wrong is video games of course. Who doesn't like playing vidoe games? Even grown ups does. There are many selections of video games in the market now. There are home console type video games, or the handheld systems such as PSP or DS Lite game system. If you are particular about the brands there are Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and other smaller brands to choose from. Or if they already has the video game system in place, you can buy them the some new and hip vidoe games card for them to add into their own collection of games.

Shopping for wedding gifts

This comming September 2008 is a popular month for getting married especially for Chinese couple. I have a colleague invited me for her wedding early next month but unfortunately I am not able to attend. So, I intend to buy her a wedding gift instead. I seldom shop for wedding gift because when I attend the wedding dinner, I usually gave red packets as the usual Chinese custom. So, I have no idea what to buy as a wedding gift for this colleague of mine.

I had some free time during office hour lunch hour, so I decided to look for some gift ideas on the home section of a departmental store. I also had time to visit one famous wedding gift store located at the mega mall just near by my office. Since my colleague is quite young, I think I should look for a wedding gift for young couple. Bed sheets set, flatware, dinnerware and kitchen tools are among some of the ideas I am thinking of getting them.

I was also thinking of maybe buying a nice sculpture decoration as a wedding gift. I went to a gift store and saw a really nice one. It's a sculpture of an angel praying, size is just nice as I had envisioned it and it is off-white in colour. The gift is beautiful and I almost bought it but I did not because gift as such is not very practical. I prefer to go for something practical when buying gift for someone including wedding gifts. I think I will decide on getting a nice bed sheets set for my colleague's wedding. I think she'll love it. Besides, it is close to the budget that I had in mind. Also, when I have no idea on what to buy as a gift, the internet is full of gift ideas that could guide me along to choose a suitable gifts for my family and friends.

Afraid to go visit the big "D"

How many of you are afraid of going to the Dentist? Yes, please hands up! Well, I am one of those who trembles in fear at the thought of needing to go to that "scary" place. It can be deem as a scary place not only for children, but adults alike. I think most people especially the male population would stay away from going to the Dentist until the very last minute because they could not tolerate the pain. Going to the Dentist for some adults can be just like small young kids who are going to visit the barber for the very first time to have their hair cut. It could be a very "tragic" experience to some.

We should all actually visit the Dentist once ever six months or at least once a year which I think most Western people does. Sadly to say, most Asians doesn't abide to this healthy living habit. If Western people could bring themselves to visit the Dentist frequently, that means not all Dental visit has to be painful right? Well, that must be it. If we visit the Dentist frequently, we could avoid many dental problem that causes those unbearable pain, so to speak. It's kind of like a yearly maintenance thing we got to do to stay healthy. But visiting to the Dentist can be very expensive. Some times, people could not afford to pay for the dental fees. Perhaps we should look at purchasing a dental insurance plan. I'm not sure whether we have this in Malaysia though. Although the company that I am working in does subsidize us on dental fees but it usually wasn't enough to covers 100% of the cost. I'm still going to utilize the dental benefits I got although I think it's a scary thing to do.

I had my share of scary experience to the Dentist. My lower left wisdom tooth has just begin to grow some time ago. And there isn't enough space for it to grow out in a nice position. So, I had to have it removed because it is pushing my lower row of teeth which could be crooked if I left it unattended. The Dentist have to do a minor surgery to remove that wisdom tooth. A tool were used to cut that particular wisdom tooth into two part so to make the extraction easier. I could still remember vividly the sound generated by the tool being used which are like an electric saw cutting through me. It was scary as I could feel the vibration of the cutting process on my teeth. After the extraction, I had to endure three days of pain and had a big hole on my gum. Now is time for me to have another visit to the Dentist again. And I am afraid to set the appointment date but I know I have to get it done somehow. Has anyone of you had any scary experience during your visit to the Dentist?

The most precious thing

Some people are not very blessed with a good life. Some people are constantly worried about when or how are they going to get even the most basic essential items for their daily needs. Some people might have been living in a wonderful life without the need to worry about anything. Some people do not need to go through hardship of getting enough food to feed their family. Some people might have been very blessed but they suddenly lost almost everything when their world come tumbling down just because that supporting person is not here anymore.

It doesn’t matter whether you are rich or poor, but what people needed most where money can’t give is love. But we are still living in this cruel world where we need to rely on some form of material things, food and water to survive. What happen when you are really in need of financial assistance? Even water doesn’t come free. Some people might resort to selling watches or antiques items the safe up enough fund to get themselves out of trouble. This is quite prominent during olden days where people sell of whatever valuable possession they have when they are in need of money. So do rich people auction off their assets when they goes bankrupt.

Sometimes people have no choice but to have to sell off their possession in times of needs. Those possessions can be very valuable and very memorable to the person. They might need to find the right jewelry consignment or diamond consignment when the time comes for them to say goodbye to their beloved possession. No matter how painful and how much emotional battle they need to go through, but it left them no other choice. But no matter what or how many precious possession we have lost, always remember that those things are only material things which can be bought, rebuilt or destroyed. But love is different. Love cannot be bought. It love is lost, it was not really love. It is not really love if it cannot mend back broken hearts. Therefore, love is the most precious thing and the greatest possession a person could have throughout eternity.

Shop till you drop!

It has been quite long since I last heard anyone saying this phrase “shop till you drop”. I used to hear it a lot during my college years as those were the times where I spend most of my free time shopping with friends or even done it alone almost every weekends. The funny thing is I had a lot more money to spend while I was studying comparing to my time now where I am earning my own money. Duh! It was really not that fun spending our own hard earned money; I guess that is why it seems I had a lot less money to spend now. Is there anyone else agree on this? Well, the phrase “shop till you drop” no longer express the state that I am now. Not sure if it still applies to my friends though. I do wonders whether my friends still shop heavily especially during those crazy sales time.

No matter what the financial state is, I believe every women likes shopping. Perhaps, it is only during those sales season there would be more “shop till you drop” activities going on around us. That’s why we see many shopping places are so crowded during that time of the year and people usually looks for discounts items. We may think it’s wise to buy those discounts items but beware that some shops might have marked up the prices before it were being sold at a lower price during sale period. When you know that you get con, it’s not really a wise move to buy those discounts items after all.

There is always this need to look for best deal items or best buy items lurking around in our hearts sometimes if not every time. Well, if you are extremely rich then price is not the matter. Never the less, when it comes to shopping, girls will go ga-ga over it. We love to compare items and prices too. No matter how difficult to get the item, we will still go after it and find a way to get it. Now it is even easier to shop with internet being so convenient to all of us. There are many housewives who do online shopping too. With having more and more online shopping websites offering more selections and low prices, perhaps online shopping would be the new “shop till you drop” place in the near future. Well, generally girls love shopping. So guys, get over with it, okay?

My little house ideas

I like touring big houses especially those new ones. Since my Aunt shifted to her new house, I had the opportunity to do some house touring recently. I remember many years ago it was such a little adventure for me when I was young. My dad used to bring me to his friend’s house for visiting and being a small kid, it was easy to just go wondering around other people’s house and no one will blame me for being a snoop. As a kid, it’s easy to get away with practically anything, I presume. Well, I think it’s from my little childhood adventure that I got the interest in lurking around new houses and admiring their interior/outdoor designs and decorations. I think I will like it if I am able to visit historical buildings and places too.

Based on my last visit at my Aunt’s new house, I noticed that I haven’t lost touch on my creative and decorative sense when it comes to house decorating. I was quietly picturing on my mind on how I would decorate it if it were my own house. I noticed the house need some fine art lamps on the living room area as the original lighting of the new house was too plain and unattractive. Also, it would be nice if some fancy lighting such as those of Sea Gull lighting being fixed at some of the rooms and family room upstairs. For the outdoor garden area, it would make the place more lively and classy by just adding an artistic lighting such as those of Kichler landscape lighting arrays of choices. Well, when I have my own house, I would make it a cozy little home where everyone in my family will feel welcome and comfortable to stay.

Shopping for HDTV

My mom wish to have another TV at home. We already had one in the living room but due to us always booked in front of the TV whenever we are home, my mom couldn’t watch her choice of TV program because she always gave in. Well, myself and my siblings would like to buy another TV for her too. Perhaps buying a HDTV would be good. If we could get one with great deal offer, that would be wonderful.

Browsing through the internet on pricing and HDTV information, I came across SecondAct.com which is an online retailer for HDTVs and related products. They are most likely the lowest cost provider of it on the internet because their products are factory refurbished, factory closeouts and overstocks, end-of-life, open box and more. Many good quality product brands such as JVC, Sharp, Toshiba, Samsung, Denon, Marantz, Hitachi and more, are being sold there.

I also find that products sold at SecondAct.com are really a great deal offer. The best thing is they not only sell lower priced items, they have further discount for a single item for a period of 24 hours which the deal changes daily. To ensure that buyers doesn’t miss out any great daily deal, buyers can sign up to receive it via email or RSS.

Dishwasher

Not many of us could afford a dishwasher here. I hate washing the dishes. But I am stilling living with my mom, so my mom would do most of the dish washing whenever I skip doing it. It’s not a good thing to have my mom do all the housework, I know. Sorry, I am just plain lazy in terms of doing housework. Thank goodness we hired two house cleaners to help up in cleaning the house every Saturday weekend. Compare to doing it ourselves, we had more housework being done but with a price to pay of course.

When I have my own home in the future, I do wish to own a dishwasher if that is possible. I heard that LG dishwasher is not a bad choice. That of course, I should probably consider buying a house which has a reasonable space to fit my LG dishwasher. It will definitely save me a lot of time and I can avoid most of the dish washing chores which I hate.

Why I prefer LG dishwasher is because I like their stylish design and great features. Better features come with a higher price of course, which all brands does. And I saw some pretty good customer reviews and ranking on wize.com

Grown-up financial commitments

Since I graduated college and venture to the outside world as any other ordinary young working adults, I have dreaded this phase of live where I have to begin to take responsibilities in managing my own financial means. When I was young, I had always looked forward to the time where I could work and earn my own living so that I could buy whatever I wanted without asking for anyone’s consent. Isn’t this what most of us quietly wish for when we were kids? To be able to buy anything without needing to ask our parent’s for money? Well, when that time around came, it was just a short blissful period of time where I could actually enjoy my hard earn money freely without having anything to worry about. That is because life back then wasn’t as demanding and complicated as I grow older.

So, as we grows older, I believe we all go through such phase in live where we need to apply some sort of financial loans to accommodate our ever increasing demand in life. Car loan for example, is a very common type of loans we all have to apply for when purchasing a car. Same as home loans when it is time to purchase your own house especially for the newly weds. These add on to our responsibility in life when we have some form of financial commitments. Well, unless you are extremely rich then you might not have to borrow any form of financial loans at all.

Another type of financial commitments which we all commonly have is credit cards. No matter where your financial standing is, we all do have credit cards, don’t we? These small rectangle cards are just so convenient to bring along everywhere without having the need to have a bulk lots of cash around. So, credit cards too, add on to our existing financial commitments on top of other small personal ones. And having a credit card is not always a pleasure. Well, it’s a pleasure to spend it but not when you need to pay up the credit card balance. It is very important to manage our financial commitments carefully and wisely. If you have failed before, it is always not too late to change and start over just as long as you have the determination to change to have a better live for you or your family.

Wine health benefits

Are you a wine lover? Here’s good news for you. Study shows that drinking wines either red wine or white wine poses some health benefits. But red wines gets the better verdict because of its higher contents of antioxidant from healing power of resveratrol contains in red grape skins. However, there were news that winemaker world wide are altering the production process of white wine to increase its health benefits.

Here are some of the recent studies about the benefits of wine:

  • Anti-aging effects in red grape skins (Harvard Medical School in Boston, 2004)

  • Improved lung function from antioxidants in white wine (American Thoracic Society, 2002)

  • Coronary heart disease reduced (University of California, Davis, 1995)

  • Healthier blood vessels in elderly (University of Ferrara in Italy, 2004)

  • Ulcer-causing bacteria reduced (American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2003)

  • Cancer cells killed by protein in red grape skins (University of Virginia Health System, 2004)

  • Arteries kept clean by polyphenols in red grape skins (William Harvey Research Institute, 2002)

  • Decreased ovarian cancer risk (The Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Australia, 2004)

  • Stronger bones (Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology Unit, St. Thomas’ Hospital in London, 2004)

  • Lower risk of stroke (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2001)

  • Lower risk of heart attack for men with high blood pressure (Worcester Medical Center in Massachusetts, 2004)

Most of these studies promote drinking in moderation. Drinking in moderation is the key to obtain the health benefits of wine drinking. Too much wine per day or per week lead to negative effects, that increases your chance of contacting a life threatening illness. Therefore, the amount of wine you drink matters tremendously. So, how much is considered safe and effective? It is recommended that men take no more than 2 drinks per day and women take no more than 1 drink per day.

"One drink" is defined as a 5-ounce glass of red or white wine, 12 ounces of regular beer (1 bottle), or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits.

Help at home

Being a housewife is not an easy job. Unless you have a maid or two to help up with the housework, it is quite impossible to clean up the whole house in one day. Well, but that also depending on how big the house is. As a housewife does not always a bead of roses where by you could have an uncountable amount of time to do your own things, go shopping or indulge in your favorite past time hobby. Most housewives especially those with kids will find that their 24 hours time a day is not enough.

Working wives definitely complains that they do not have the time to do most of the housework but you may be surprise that that could happen to a full-time housewives too. Therefore it is always great to have a very understanding husband who could help up with some of the housework or by surprising their wife with useful and thoughtful gifts. Buying some household items such as hoover vacuum cleaners is a great way to show how much the husband love their wife and appreciate everything the wife does for the family. Hoover vacuum cleaners is a high quality vacuum cleaner that most people loves it.

Online shopping for household items is a smart way to begin with. Browse for dozens of items information and compare prices could be done swiftly at the comfort of your own home. You can start by browsing through wize.com who not only offers an extensive range of great products including hoover vacuum cleaners, and there are also customers reviews that could help you decide what’s best to buy.

Thinking of buying insurance

Has insurance been a thing that we all must have one way or another? Hmm.... I think it's good to have insurance because it could provide us a sense of security if whatever thing happen to us, we can be sure that things could be much more manageable with the money we could get from investing in a good insurance policy.

Besides life insurance, or medical insurance, there is investment type insurance too. With the many types of insurance now in the market, it's time to look for those which could enable us to Save Money on Insurance. As many of us do not have very much to spend and with the little money that we have, it is important to have a solid good insurance which doesn't burns a hole in our pocket.

In the future when I have my own family, I will look into having Life Family Plan Premium or anything that got to do with Family Insurance. It's a good way on keeping my family safe and would have some financial help taken care of in the future.

Italy attractions: Rome, Venice, Milan

Some of the world’s most famous monuments and historical sights can be found in Italy. Italy is also the place where there exist many artistic and intellectual movements that are well known throughout Europe and beyond. Their artistic heritage includes the achievements of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, any many others. Hence, Italy is definitely a place where it will unfailingly provide you with tons of attractions and widen your horizon. This is definitely the place where I wish to go.

When you got the chance to go to Italy, Rome (the capital city of Italy) is a place where you would not want to miss your stop there. You have got to visit the Colosseum (often consider as the symbol of Rome), the Vatican (place of hosting the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church – The Holy See), Trevi Fountain (having a famous legend attached), and The Pantheon (one of the most complete Roman Imperial era buildings still standing).

Other famous places to visit in Italy are Venice and Milan. You can visit Piazza San Marco, Gondola Ride, St Mark’s Basilica and Grand Canal in Venice. Online Bidding Game

Long, long time ago people goes to auction event to buy or sell goods by offering them up through bidding process. The winning bidder (which bid the highest price) will be the one able to purchase the bided item from the seller who put the item on auction. It is believed that auction event has already started since 500 B.C.

Bidding for items has already long evolved from the old fashion ways of going to the auction house to bidding for items online. No matter which one you goes to, all of them requires you to be the highest bidder to win. And if you win, you'll have to pay the exact amount of money that you have bided.

For those who can't afford any of those normal bidding rule where highest bider wins, here's a good news for you. There's a website called Bid4Prizes who hosted an online bidding site where the lowest unique bider will win. Yes, it works the other way round. Not the highest bid wins but the lowest unique bid wins. It is text based reverse-auction game and it is very user-friendly. You can bid for any prizes that you like and if you win, you do not need to pay for anything. They will also ship it over to you free. It's like getting free gifts. Prizes range from, Apple I-Phone’s, HDTV’s, Designer Bags, SCION XB’s to Cash Prize. If you like Sweepstake, then you'll surely like this bidding game much more because it's easy, simple and fun.

Place of interest: France

France is one of the famous country in Western Europe. Because of the geometric shape of its territory, French people often refer to Metropolitan France as L'Hexagone (The "Hexagon"). I am most facinated by the many historical places and famous arcitecture buildings that can be found in France. If I have the opportunity to go for holiday in Europe, I would love to go to Paris, the capital city of France. Paris is also known as one of the most romantic city in the world where couple would choose to go for their honeymoon.

The cost of going to France for a holiday is indeed seems very expensive to me. Well, with the Malaysian ringgit to Euro currency exchange rate I cannot afford it yet. I think if you were to travel there without joining a tour agency, it can cost much cheaper and you would have plenty of time visiting your favourite place of interest there. But one of the most difficult thing of going there without a comprehansive tour package is finding the best and cheapest hotels rate in France. Well, not only in France alone but also in any other part of the world.

The Louvre is one of the French capital’s most renowned sites. It is formerly the residence of the Kings of France. It is now one of the world greatest museums. Its exhibition areas are divided into eight major sections: Near Eastern Antiquities; Egyptian Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculptures; Decorative Arts, Paintings and Prints and Drawings. The best known of the Louvre’s extensive art collection is undoubtedly its most oft-visited and famous painting, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, located in the Renaissance Italian Paintings section. The Winged Victory of Samothrace, the celebrated headless statue with outspread wings, and the Venus de Milo are two of the most frequently viewed Greek statues, while the Seated Scribe is one of the most emblematic pieces in the Egyptian Antiquities section.

If you ever go to France, you must go Paris to visit the Eiffel Tower too. When we see/ hear/ talk about the Eiffel Tower, everyone knows that it is a symbol of France. You can have a dinner and a Moulin Rouge Show at the Eiffel Tower. If I am not mistaken, it is better if you book for the Moulin Rouge Show fo avoid dissapointment of tickets being sold out. There are many hotels in Paris which you can choose from and one thing for sure, you can almost definately get to view the Eiffel Tower from your Paris Hotel if you ever choose to stay there.

The next place I want to introduce is The Lido. Bonheur» (Happiness): the title sets the tone for the revue at the Lido which is the famous cabaret on the Champs Elysées. From one tableau to the next, you will follow the story of a woman in search of happiness: against a background of soft, stirring music, lights and other special effects, the Bluebell Girls illuminate the stage with their sumptuous costumes and sensual choreographies created by Pierre Rambert. Whether you see the show on its own or with dinner, the 26th revue of the Lido promises several hours of « Happiness »!

There are many more nice and interesting places to visit in France which I have not discribe it here. I have some pictures of some of those interesting places to visit which I would like to share it here.
