Love Q #21 - Being Friends With Your Ex

Okay, this is last week's Love Q created by the author of Short Sweet Love Poem.

Is it advisable to maintain a great friendship with an ex? Would that friendship be worth it or would it complicates matters?

My answer:

To the first question, my answer is a strong no. Because you have once loved him/her before, and you might still be secretly loving him/her now, or you might fall in love with him/her again which could be a disaster if both already attached to some else. Further to that, if you are already dating or married to someone else chances are your partner or spouse might not like the idea of having their love ones still keeping in touch with their ex. Furthermore, not many people can be so open to accept their partner still seeing or talking to their ex eventhough it is said they are not romantically attached to each other anymore. Therefore, it is not advisable to maintain a great friendship with an ex. Well, unless you plan to stay unmarried for the rest of your life. And I think eventhough people decided to keep the friendship with their ex, I don't think it will be worth it because it definitely will complicates matters. Like I said earlier, if you are in a relationship, your partner might not like it and it might create trouble in the future. No matter how understanding and tollerant your partner is, he is just human. To continue on being friends with your ex will put the sense of trust in jeopardy, don't you think so?

Right, I don't think I would like to be friends with an ex either. Acquaintance, I think is ok, but friends, maybe not. I just think if the relationship is over, better to just forget about things and move on rather than still keeping in close contact.
